Mother Ferry Remembered 6/12/1885 - 1/07/1971

From Nona's book Green Shamrocks to Golden Poppies, p. 107:

"Mama (Catherine Belle AKA Mother Ferry) couldn't tell a horse from a mule. So she was perfectly happy when a mule was hitched to a carriage and away she would go to town with her brood of children. When the mule arrived at the corner of Glendale Ave and Colorado Blvd, it would let out a big bray or hee-haw. It was the laugh of Glendale.
"On Christmas 1915, Papa gave Mama a cow for a present. She didn't become angry. She even had her picture taken with the cow. This showed what a good sport Mama was."
