R.C. Baker Museum in Coalinga

Paul S recently visited he R.C. Baker Museum in Coalinga and found this photo of Papa Frank captioned Farmers Day 1949. He is the man under the star.

Here is an enlarged version of the photo.

The R.C. Baker Memorial Museum was started in 1961 and includes historical items of the Coalinga area dating back to the late 1800's.  See how the oil industry and railroad was drawn to the Coalinga landscape.
If you are coming through the area during the week and would like to see the museum, phone ahead and, if available, the museum staff will open for you.

This unique Museum in Coalinga has a wide variety of displays, including a restored 1934 Richfield Service Station, fossils, American Indian artifacts, Western ranch-hand equipment, oil equipment and a 1924 American La France fire engine. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Coalinga and surrounding areas. Tours available for the museum and the restored 1934 Richfield Station; please call one week prior to the date you wish to visit.

A review from Trip Advisor: “This museum is awesome. There is history of the local town, coal mining and shipping, oil field exploration, production and transportation, cattle ranching, geology, fossils and much, much more. The museum is well organized and clean. Staff is friendly and willing to take you on a tour if requested. We allotted 2 hours and should have made it 4. Will have to go back again to see more. Great museum, great staff, great experience.”
