My father, Peter Leo Ferry, was born in 1881 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, there is some question about the actual day of his birth. Our family always celebrated his birthday on Christmas day, and of course, we assumed that this was his real birthday. In the 1970s, many years after my father’s death, I began to study the family genealogy. I was perplexed when I obtained the records from the Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsburgh . . . which lists his birthdate as December 23, 1881. I was further surprised in 1995 when I obtained a copy of the page from his parents’ family Bible … his birth is recorded as December 24, 1881. I would guess that the date in the family Bible is the correct date.
